My Story

Hi, my name is Joseph Karama and I’m a certified safari guide based in East Africa. I grew up around national parks and the beauty of this part of the continent led to my passion for nature and conservation.

After working in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and Akagera National Park for almost 20 years, I decided to give back to my community. That’s why I founded the Akagera Rhino Lodge on the edge of Akagera – an eco-friendly lodge that aims to be an oasis of peace and serenity in the heart of Africa where people from across the world can enjoy the wonders of nature.

Today, the lodge is led by a team of hospitality professionals, many from the local community, and guests from all around the world feel welcome the moment they arrive.

I couldn’t be prouder because this allows me to go back to wild places, where it all started, to offer private safari guide services. Spending time with guests on safari gives me an opportunity to inspire a passion for nature conservation and I invite you to join me on this journey.

I am Joseph The Safari Guide!
